Welcome to Hanover House….

After having been kidnapped, tortured and left for dead when she was just a teenager—by her high school boyfriend—she’s determined to understand how someone she trusted so much could turn on her. So she’s established a revolutionary new medical health center in the remote town of Hilltop, Alaska, where she studies the worst of the worst.

But not everyone in Hilltop is excited to have Hanover House and its many serial killers in the area. Alaskan State Trooper, Sergeant Amarok, is one of them. And yet he can’t help feeling bad about what Evelyn has been through. He’s even attracted to her. Which is partly why he worries.

He knows what could happen if only one little thing goes wrong…

[caption id="attachment_1523" align="alignleft" width="200"]Broomstick Breakdown $3.99[/caption]

Broomstick Breakdown by Eve Langlais

Sophia is on her way to her first Halloween gathering for witches when her broomstick breaks down. Luckily, she lands at a garage where a hunky mechanic, after a spell of persuasion, agrees to act as chauffeur.

Aidan is more than just a sex
y driver though. As a wolf shapeshifter, magic doesn’t affect him, but he’s not immune to the powerful draw of his true mate. Mating should be simple, but he didn’t count on a stubborn witch making abduction his only option.

With the factions they belong to discouraging mixed species mating, will they find love like fate intended?

Dark Witch by Nora Roberts

(The Cousins O'Dwyer  #1)

[caption id="attachment_1522" align="alignright" width="202"]Dark Witch, Nora Roberts, Cousins O'Dwyer $11.99[/caption]

With indifferent parents, Iona Sheehan grew up craving devotion and acceptance. From her maternal grandmother, she learned where to find both: a land of lush forests, dazzling lakes, and centuries-old legends.

County Mayo, to be exact. Where her ancestors’ blood and magic have flowed through generations—and where her destiny awaits.

Iona arrives in Ireland with nothing but her Nan’s directions, an unfailingly optimistic attitude, and an innate talent with horses. Not far from the luxurious castle where she is spending a week, she finds her cousins, Branna and Connor O’Dwyer. And since family is family, they invite her into their home and their lives.

When Iona lands a job at the local stables, she meets the owner, Boyle McGrath. Cowboy, pirate, wild tribal horseman, he’s three of her biggest fantasy weaknesses all in one big, bold package.

Iona realizes that here she can make a home for herself—and live her life as she wants, even if that means falling head over heels for Boyle. But nothing is as it seems. An ancient evil has wound its way around Iona’s family tree and must be defeated. Family and friends will fight with each other and for each other to keep the promise of hope—and love—alive…

Dragonbane by Sherrilyn Kenyon

(Dark Hunter #25)

[caption id="attachment_1527" align="alignleft" width="183"]Dragonbane $14.99[/caption]

Out of all the mysterious boarders who call Sanctuary home, no one is more antisocial or withdrawn than Maxis Drago. But then, it’s hard to blend in with the modern world when you have a fifty-foot wingspan.

Centuries ago, he was cursed by an enemy who swore to see him fall. An enemy who took everything from him and left him forever secluded.

But Fate is a bitch, with a wicked sense of humor. And when she throws old enemies together and threatens the wife he thought had died centuries ago, he comes back with a vengeance. Modern day New Orleans has become a battleground for the oldest of evils. And two dragons will hold the line, or go down in flames.

I hope you have a Happy Halloween tomorrow! Are you going to dress up? I don't anymore, but I do hand out candy then walk around with my daughter. I have the opportunity to get Sherrilyn Kenyon's, Born of Betrayal, early and signed, tomorrow. It just depends on how I'm feeling whether I want to make the hour drive. I have no voice today. Weather keeps changing and it's getting me sick!

Review: The Lady Hellion by Joanna Shupe

The third book in the Wicked Deception series by Joanna Schupe. I've read both of the others in the series and really enjoyed them. They can be stand-alone though.

Sophie considers herself an unmarriageable spinster because a rake duped her into losing her virginity during her first debut. Sophie grew up attached to her father's hip, a marquess who acted as a magistrate so she learned about criminal behavior from a young age. She is a rather unusual lady, in that she is secretly running an investigation, while disguised as a man, on some lowlife that is murdering prostitutes. She travels through brothels and gaming hells in search for the serial killer.

Lord Quint is a genius who decodes secret texts for the government. He recently took a shot in his shoulder while on a mission in the previous book. Sophie secretly helps Damian recover from a deathly fever induced by the infection of his wound. Subsequently, he is now housebound due to panic attacks and the irrational fear of public spaces. He fears he's going insane like his father did.

Sophie and Quint have history. She rejected him after one kiss, years ago. The chemistry between them sizzles. The friendship between them is lovely to behold. After he recovers she notices that he never goes out to give his lectures and she makes a deal with him. If he helps her find the murderer she'll help him with his panic attacks.

This story was a mixture of adventure, mystery and a very passionate love story.
It was different to see the heroine doing most of the action while the hero is suffering from a terrible disorder. It no way detracts from the awesomeness that is Quint, the nerdy lovable man!

There are several surprises in this plot that I didn't see coming which is always a good thing!

Interview with Gayle Callen

I'm so excited to have Gayle Callen here on the blog. I've been reading her books since high school! (Her very first book, The Darkest Knight). Today we are discussing the first novel in her new Highland Weddings trilogy, The Wrong Bride.

Nelle, thanks for having me here today! I’m so flattered you’ve been reading me for sixteen years. Yep, it’s been that long…

Oh my goodness! It's been that long?! *Hides the box of hair dye on the counter*

Let's get down to business. First, tell us a bit about The Wrong Bride? (Like a 30-second promo.)

The Wrong Bride is my first trilogy set in Scotland. Two warring clans decide to make peace with an arranged marriage. When the bride’s side tries to back out, the groom feels justified in a kidnapping. Problem is—he kidnaps the wrong bride!

Oh wow!! That's going to be a great story to tell his grandchildren!

Ok, time to dish, twitter style! Tell us a little about Hugh.

Hugh is a new chief who needs to prove himself to his clan. He’s an honorable man, but one who’s positive his way is the right way.

Sigh, don't all men think they are right? And what about Riona? Such a pretty name!

Riona is brave, determined to escape, but eventually has the heart to realize how bad it’ll be for Hugh when his clan discovers the mistake.

Your favorite quote or scene in the book? Did something make you laugh or smirk?

I really like the first kiss scene. They’ve arrived at the clan castle, and Riona has now realized she has some power over Hugh, her kidnapper. She’ll keep quiet about the kidnapping (since she knows no one will believe her anyway) while she’s trying to find a way to escape, but in exchange, she wants answers and explanations from him. He admires her daring, and to show her he’s still in control, he kisses her. And the fun part is that this whole scene takes place while Riona is in the bathtub. Her refusal to back down in such a vulnerable situation made me smile.

*Swoon* First kiss in the tub!  *Sigh* She sounds like a kickass heroine!

Why did you choose to go to the Highlands?

I really liked the wildness, the remoteness, of the Highlands. Clan chiefs were practically kings of their own land and people, and that really makes for a strong, alpha hero. I also liked the time period, the struggle between England and Scotland, which gave me some good conflict to work with.

King Hugh... Has a nice ring to it, don't you think? *Grin*

What's next in the series?

The next book is The Groom Wore Plaid, which will be published in March. Our heroine, Maggie, is haunted by a premonition of the groom’s death which will happen on their wedding day.

Oh, yay! I love a little para in my historicals! Sounds fun and just in time for my birthday!

I had no idea you also wrote contemporary romances as Emma Cane. The cover of Ever After at Sweetheart Ranch keeps catching my eye, now that I know you wrote it I'm going to have to start the Valentine Island series. If you'd like can you tell us a little bit about the series? What's next for Emma Cane?

I started the Valentine Valley series as Emma Cane, because I’m a pretty fast writer, and I asked Avon if I could write something else for them. I’d never written contemporary romance before, so I was excited by the challenge. The series—six books and three novellas—takes place in a small ranching town in the Colorado Mountains. There are quirky characters, big families, and some sexy cowboys! Next, I’m taking a break from Valentine Valley to begin a new series, with a big family who, one at a time, come home to take over the family orchard. The Fairfield Orchard series will start next summer.

I know you are a big reader, what has been your favorite book so far this year and why? Any upcoming novels you're eagerly anticipating

My favorite book I read this year is Lorraine Heath’s Once More My Darling Rogue. It came out last year, but when I saw that it had won RT Book Reviews Magazine’s Historical Romance of the Year, I had to read it. And boy I’m glad I did! The heroine, who certainly has some flaws because of her dark past, loses her memory, and our hero protects her as well as gets a little revenge. It was very touching and emotional, but then Lorraine’s books always are.

I love Lorraine! The match between Drake and Ophelia was a good one! I loved the conflict! It was an original for a historical novel. I've yet to read the next Scandalous Gentleman book, The Duke and the Lady in Red, but it's on my TBR list!

I can’t wait to read No Mistress of Mine  by Laura Lee Guhrke. Sadly, it won’t be out until late 2016, but you can read her most recent book, Catch a Falling Heiress (love that title!). Laura’s books are always so romantic and sexy.

I'll have to check that one out! Well, that's it for today!

Thanks for a great interview, Nelle!

Thank you for stopping by, Gayle!

Hope Springs on Main Street by Olivia Miles

[space size=25]

Jane Madison

Jane is recently divorced and still recovering from her exes affair. She's a strong woman who, eventually put her foot down with her philandering ex. She is the "mom" of the family and has a habit of keeping her troubles to herself.

Henry Birch

Henry is Ivy, Graces best friend's brother and also the best friend of the jerk of an ex. in town to sell his recently departed mother's house, send then get back out of the small town that's full of gossips. He's also a travel writer, who if he would, could help put Hope Springs on the map. [br]

This one took me a while to get into. I never really found a love for Henry. He could never  make up his mind on whether to support Jane or Adam. His wishy-washiness almost ruined the story for me. Jane and her precious little girl held my heart and kept me reading. They deserved a happy ending.  The chemistry between them was tangible, but with both of them resisting at every turn, it was frustrating to watch. The sex was fade to black, so it made for a sweet romance.

Henry supposedly cared for Jane before her right out of high school marriage. His failure to be honest with Jane, both in the past and present, just irritated me. His sudden decision to back Jane in the end just didn't do it for me, while I applaud what he did, it didn't make up for all the previous years of indecision.

We got to see quite a bit of Ivy and learned who her love interest will be and I'm quite  looking forward to reading her story. I know I've been pretty hard on Henry but the rest of the book is really good. I enjoyed the pajama parties and getting to catch up with the previous couples.

Guest Post w/ Codi Gary ~ Sneak Peak ~ Men in Uniform

i-need-a-hero-virtual-tour [space size=25]

Please welcome Codi Gary to the blog today! She's going to dish a little about the Stars of the Men in Uniform Series!

When starting a new series, there are the characters you had plans for before you even started writing and the ones that surprise you. When I had turned in my series proposal, I had two characters that were fused into my brain that worked at the Alpha Dogs Training Program; Dean Sparks and Tyler Best. Both of these characters got their last names from Taylor Swift songs (hush!) and I was stoked to develop them. [br]
But first, I needed to introduce you to my new world. Enter Oliver Martinez, a tough MP whose dad was in the military stationed in Texas. When he met Oliver’s mother, he fell in love and when they married, he took her last name. Oliver is the oldest with twin sisters, and grew up bilingual. Although he got in trouble in his youth, he grew into a mature, caring man. However, he can be a little tactless at times, which irritates our heroine. [br]
Which brings me to his love interest, Evelyn Reynolds, who is also the oldest with a spoiled younger brother. While Oliver’s dad was discharged from the military and became a cop, Eve’s father is a general who runs the base Oliver is stationed at. Moving around a lot as a kid and dealing with her overbearing father, Eve learned how to be independent and doesn’t take crap from anyone. She also doesn’t want to live the life of a military wife and has avoided getting involved with a military man…until now. [br]
And our main supporting cast; [br]
Dean Sparks, who I mentioned above, is the director of Alpha Dogs and Oliver’s friend. Stoic and serious, Dean is the rock that everyone leans on. The oldest of six siblings and half Jewish, he grew up in New York before joining the army at eighteen. A year ago, he became the only survivor of his team and is waiting on his psychiatrist to clear him. [br]
Tyler Best is a wise-cracking, woman loving Marine who was shot along with his military dog while on his second tour. His dog didn’t make it and it has eaten Tyler up. He was assigned to Alpha Dogs because of his animal training and behavior background and is slowly overcoming his loss.
Megan Brice is one of Eve’s best friends. They lived on base together, since Megan’s family was army too, and later, she enlisted. Medically discharged, she is trying to adjust to being a civilian, and speaks her mind. Whatever comes to mind. [br]
General Reynolds is a hard ass man used to getting his own way…except with his children. [br]
And last but not least, Beast. Beast is at best guess a mastiff mix with short reddish brown fur and a short wrinkly face with large jowls and lots of drool. He was dropped off at the shelter by his previous owners and was at the shelter so long he was set to be euthanized. Although he is a funny, sweet dog, it is discovered that he suffers from separation anxiety, which can lead to some funny and heart-wrenching situations. [br]
I hope you enjoyed this sneak peek into my new cast of characters and hope you enjoy Oliver and Eve’s love story. [br]

Review: Good Earl Gone Bad by Manda Collins

One tough lady, one helluva driver, and in love with horses. She knows what she wants and goes after it!
One tough gal so angry at her father but she loves that inconsiderate man

Slightly stuffy, hidden sweetness and chivalrous earl. He has a protective streak a mile wide.

The Romance

Jasper might win Hermione's hand in a game of gambling but for a man who excels at mathematics, we all know it was for a purpose. You can see the chemistry between Hermione and Jasper from the very beginning, although they both resist. He grew up on strict rules on what a lady should or shouldn't do and he believed them Until he met Hermione. She changed everything for him. For her part, she dreamed of him, there was just something about him that she couldn't shake.

My Thoughts

There is a bit of a who-done-it murder mystery and Jasper must find the culprit or let Hermione be implicated. There was no way Jasper was going to let that happen. It kept me on my toes because it could have been several people.

The secondary characters were interesting. As this is a series about a driving club that could have dealings in treason, there is lots of intrigue that kept me on my toes. I'm looking forward to the next novel.

[rating stars="four-stars"]

So do you like a bit of who-done-it in your historical romances?

I Need a Hero by Codi Gary ~ Military man ~ rescue dogs

[space size=25]

  Evelyn Reynolds

She's the General's daughter. She is extremely messy, very bossy, stubborn and independent but still very close to her father. She wants a stable man, one who comes home at night and is in a "safe" profession. [br] [br]

Sergeant Oliver Martinez

He's a badass MP Sergeant. All he wants is to help people. He's very sassy and arrogant and he's not a bit shy. He sees what he wants and goes for it, consequences be damned. [br]

The Situation

So, He got into a bar fight and is being punished by being sent to Alpha Dog Training Program to help with publicity for a charity event. She's the event coordinator and his boss. It was an instant attraction on both their parts, but she fights it because he is military. I could feel the chemistry in the room with them! Alpha Dog Training Program is a two-part rehabilitation and rescue. They have troubled teens that are sent there to train rescue dogs to become military dogs. The Adult trainers are buddies of his and they give him a dog to train. Beast is an adorable pit bull that has been abandoned by his previous owners. Let's just say Beast gives him a run for his money, that's for sure! [br]

My Thoughts

This is my first time to read Codi Gary. I love reading about military men though so I picked it up. Her writing style is a bit different than I usually read. Her characters tell it like it is in a very clear everyday language. Having been around military men for the past 14 years, I know they have a way of speaking that other men don't. It's very clear that she has their lingo and attitude down to a T. Although I call suspect that a Sergeant would report to a General as that's way up in the chain of command, it didn't detract from the story at all. The supporting characters were interesting and engaging. I'm going to add the rest of the series to my TBR. [br]

My Rating:

[rating stars="three-half-stars"]

I Need a Hero[book-info]

Sergeant Oliver Martinez joined the military to serve his country—not plan parties. But after a run-in with his commanding officer, Oliver is suddenly responsible for the Alpha Dogs Training Program’s upcoming charity event. Worse, he’s got to work with the bossiest, sexiest woman he's ever met—who just happens to be the general’s daughter. When it comes to military men, Evelyn Reynolds is not interested. And with the opportunity to launch her new PR firm at the charity event, she doesn't have time for some sexy, arrogant jerk with a hero complex. Evelyn is determined to keep things professional—if only she can ignore how Oliver’s muscles fill out a t-shirt and the infuriating way he makes her heart pound. But when tempers flare and a scorching kiss turns into so much more, Oliver and Evelyn will have to decide if this attraction is forever…or just for now.

Be sure and check back on Thursday as I'll have Codi Gary on the blog for a sneak peak on the stars of Men in Uniform!

*Publisher pushed back release day by a month! You can always preorder and have it in time for Thanksgiving!*

All I Want by Jill Shalvis ~ Kisses, Kittens & Dog Farts

quote-tastic final with green border"QuoteTastic" is a meme hosted every Monday on Herding Cats & Burning Soup. To participate you have to post a favorite quote from a current or past read.[space size=150]

I have so many quotes highlighted from this book it's pitiful! Jill Shalvis is the queen of words! She's hilarious! *Sigh* If you've never read a Jill Shalvis novel you are missing out! My review is pretty short today. I'm just going to say I loved it and share some quotes to prove how good it was.

“You can work on an airplane but you can’t fix anything here at the house?”
“Yeah, well, I’m an enigma,” she said. “An annoying one. Just ask anyone in my family.”

“He doesn’t seem that nervous to me,” Parker said.
Oreo farted audibly.
Zoe fanned the air. “See? Nervous.”
Parker laughed. “My guess would be he’s eaten some of your cookies.”

The Relationship

“We made it an early night,” she said.
“Because of your dress?”
“Oh my God,” she snapped and brushed past him, shoulder-checking him as she went through the living room ahead of him. “You’re impossible. I don’t know why I even try to have a conversation with you.”
He had no idea, either. He was a complete asshole.”

"Oh, for God's sake. How the hell was she supposed to keep her heart safe when he was nice to her silly dog and he saved kittens and he fixed the things in her house that were broken while pretending not to in order to save her own damn pride?

Oreo & the Kittens

The tabby stalked underneath a mistrustful Oreo and stopped between the dog's legs, eyeing the long tail with a curious eye. Then the kitten crouched low, wriggled his but, and ...pounced.

And missed Oreos tail by a mile.

Still, Orio cried.

"It's okay," Parker said. "I promise they're not going to hurt you-"

Too late, Because Oreo lifted his leg and ...peed on them. [br]

The Situation

Apparently Gabriel Rossi has a son he didn’t know about that's still in Cuba. Gabe can't get into Cuba without being shot on sight, so he has enlisted two people he trusts to find his son for him. Why though did his sister turn white when he introduced his pal Mal to her?

Road Trip! From the Atlanta Hartsfield Airport to beautiful Barefoot bay to war torn Cuba, Chessie and Mal search out answers on where Gabe's son can be found. Traveling through Cuba in close proximity with each other in an old clunker of a car makes it hard them to resist each other. Especially after their passionate one night stand at the airport! Hmm... what will Big Brother, Gabe, think about that one?!

My Thoughts

I'm so dang excited to get back to the romantic suspense Rocki is known for! We met Gabriel Rossi in the Guardian Angelino's. He was the brother who sneaked in and out and had some awesome snarky , arrogant lines. It was all leading up to his story when her publishers cut it short. BOO! If you've been a fan of Rocki's for long you'll know we all waited for Gabe's Story.  She found a way to tell it in this arc of the Barefoot Bay stories.

But wait!! This story isn't about Gabe yet! His baby sister Chessie gets her story first! And oh what a heck of a one it is too! I loved the chemistry between Chessie and Mal! The shenanigans these two get into on their adventure! Once Chessie realizes that Mal was wrongly convicted, she insists on using her skills to finding the real culprit.  Can she find out who he/is though before he finds and eliminates them in Cuba?

I loved how Chessie realizes she's more like her badass family than she thinks. Mal has some life learning to do as well. Over all, this was a fast paced, suspenseful story.

Gabe's point of view is shown in the story in bits and pieces as he grieves the loss of the love of his life and waits to find out more about his son. Rocki drops some clues in there at the end so we'll eagerly anticipate the next book, Barefoot with a Badass. Gabe's Story! Finally! *Sigh* Is it the new year yet?!

I'd recommend you read The Guardian Angelinos to get some background on the Rossi's. You don't have too, but you should! ;)

Short & Sweet or... Not So Sweet Review: When a Rake Falls by Sally Orr

I think the author was going for funny and witty, but it just never achieved that for me. I pushed myself to finish this one, it was just a bit too ridiculous. It took me days to read it because I always found something better to do... like the hated laundry. I did finish it though, but it had more to do with I hate DNF'ing books. If there ever was on to DNF it would be this one.

It had so much promise and potential! The cover is amazing! I chose it for the cover alone! Such a pretty yellow! The hero is a rake who edited and published a scandalous novel and the heroine is of the scientific bent.

The was no chemistry between the two at all. [spoiler](rubbing on each other in the hot air balloon doesn't count)[/spoiler]

A race to Paris to  win a ladies hand in marriage, a hot air balloon ride, a unchaperoned miss, a hero who bursts into song, [spoiler]a lonely wife trying to get a little on the side while in the country (in front of her mother-in-law no less!)[/spoiler] , it was just too farfetched for me.

It might appeal to you of you enjoy your historical romances without passion, very clean sexual encounters and tongue-in-cheek humor.

Top Ten Tuesday - Author Duos

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. This week's theme is Top Ten Author Duos You'd LOVE To See Write A Book Together   [space size=15]

Oh my goodness! How many Author Duos would YOU love to see happen?  My brain crashed. LOL  There are so many of my small town romances that I would love that would merge into one story, maybe a Christmas one?

ANY of these could merge and I'd be happy!

  1. Susan Mallery's Fool's Gold Series

  2. Stacy Finz Nugget Series

  3. Debbie Mason Christmas, Colorado

  4. Emily March Eternity Springs

  5. Donna Kauffman Blueberry Cove

  6. Samantha Chase The Montgomery Brothers

  7. Barbara Freethy Callaways

  8. Roxanne St. Claire Barefoot Bay

  9. Jill Shalvis Cedar Ridge or Lucky Harbor

  10. Sherryl Woods Chesapeake Shores

  11. Marie Force The McCarthys of Gansett Island

  12. Robyn Carr Virgin River or Thunder Point

I would love to have Mitch from Chesapeake Shores in one of Susan Mallery's or Jill Shalvis's novels. Maybe they need his help to redesign a town?

Maybe one of the Callaways moves or takes a trip to Fool's Gold?

Jack from Virgin River takes a vacation to Eternity Springs.

Oh, the possibilities are endless!! And don't get me started on my Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Series!

J.R. Ward and Sherrilyn Kenyon

Kresley Cole and Lyndsay Sands

Karen Marie Moning and Kim Harrison

I better stop there! I could go on for DAYS! ( I didn't even mention my historical favs!)

Who would your favorite Author Duo be? Any characters from one series you'd like to make a cameo appearance in another authors series?

Quote-Tastic ~ 5 Things I love about... Munro "Bear" MacLawry

quote-tastic final with green border"Quote-Tastic" is a meme hosted every Monday on Herding Cats & Burning Soup. To participate you have to post a favorite quote from a current or past read.

5 Things I LOVED about… Munro "Bear"

♥He's loyal, loving and not afraid to stand up for what and who he loves.
♥He's SO much smarter than the "lunk" he and his family think him.
♥He's a big strong "Bear" of a man, but also has a heart as cuddly as a cub.
♥He's big, braw and handsome.
♥He's a kilt wearing, Scottish Highlander who's not "domesticated"!

As Munro is the last of the MacLawry's to find love, I expected a lot from this one. Enoch delivered. Yes the Scottish burr is prevalent but it's authentic, so I enjoyed it. Munro "Bear" MacLawry had interested me since the beginning of this series. He's appeared to be a great lummox and all brawn and no brains. *Sigh* He's so much more than that.

His brother Arran, set between himself and Ranulf in age, had several times accused him of being uninterested in puzzles and mysteries unless he could put the result on a plate and eat it. A crack shot, trousers, long red hair, and tits, though, added up to a puzzle that interested him.

Catriona Mcdonald is a conundrum for most of the world. She has her reasons for wearing trousers and having a mannish look. She's helped her half sister run away from a potential husband and vows to help keep her hidden until she reaches her majority. She's also on the run from the McDonald's plan for her future.

I absolutely LOVED them too together! From the very beginning their chemistry flew off the page. All the MacLowery's had crazy courtships, why should this one be any different?

I didn't care for his family's actions at ALL. They rather made me angry. Suzanne made us fall for each of them in their books but in this one she changes them and I just wanted to punch his brothers so badly. It's like they have their HEA and fuck their brother... he's a lummox and just give him food and he'll be good...Pat, Pat. GRRR.
“Just do what ye do best.”

Munro stomped over to his wardrobe. “Ye have nae idea what I do best,” he muttered

I THOUGHT at one point Aaron was going to pull his head out of his ass...
“I married a Campbell lass,” he said unexpectedly. “Did ye know that? The granddaughter of the Campbell.”
“Bear told me. And I’ve heard tales.”
“I nearly began a war to keep her by my side. And I’d do it again, in a heartbeat. Mary’s the air in my lungs, and the blood in my veins.”

And then I found out I was wrong. *Sigh* Sometimes men can be SO stupid!

You can read this book stand alone because while the others are in it, it only shows brief glimpses of them. Although, I'd read the series from the beginning anyway because after this one you might want to read their stories. (You should, but they acted very differently in this book)

I missed my OWN TWO YEAR Blogoversary!! How does that happen you think? For some reason It was in my head that it was Oct 27th 2013, that I  blogged my first review. Alas, the joke was on ME! It was actually October 9th, 2013! I'll remember next year for sure! Silly me!!

[/one_half][one_half_last]I'm looking forward to Halloween! We aren't decorating this year as our plans are up in the air, right now but I can't wait to sit out on my porch and watch all the little ones come by! I think next weekend I'm planning to hop in the car and go visit my friend before she heads over to Japan with her husband soon. As she lives near the beach it's a win-win! :) Her Birthday was Thursday and our other friend got to go and visit her this week... I'm a bit green lol :)  I've gotten to see all their fun pictures on FB, though! [/one_half_last]

Review: Caught Up In You by Kim Boykin

Runaway Bride... No.. Runaway Groom!

Declan, has a history. He's run from not 1, not 2 but 3 weddings! The image of a man running out the church was amusing. He has a habit of falling in love to easily and is determined he won't fall again. Until he meets Shelby again.

Shelby has had a crush on Declan for years. [spoiler]One drunken night in college and then he's off to make something of himself, Oh and he's forgotten. Lovely, right?[/spoiler] She's looking for the real thing though after having come from her younger sisters wedding.

The Good

It was nice to see them reconnect after all these years. I could believe in their friendship and that Shelby was there for Declan.

The Bad

The girl LOVED her shoes. Did we have to hear about them so much?! The drama between Chelsea and Matt was never shown to be resolved. It was the same with Declan and his father's relationship

The Terrible

Declan's father was made out to be a sweet old man after he meets Shelby. He's gruff with Declan and when we find out why, it just ruined it fo rme.

The Hopeful

This story had really good potential plot points but just never quite made it for me.

Finger Lickin' Foods ~ Egg in a Hole (Egg & Cheesys)

So if you've followed me for a bit, you'll know I'm a Army Vet. I spent 3 years in South Korea. I regret I have NO pictures of my time there, they were lost in one of our many moves (back before I went digital)  So anyways, the point of that was to say that after a good bit of partying the best thing to do before heading back to post before curfew was to walk down this long hill in Itaewon and stop at the Egg & Cheesy vendor. There's nothing like an Egg and Cheese sandwich when you're smashed.

I've made them quite a few times over the years but the other day I ran across THIS video on Buzzfeed. NIRVANA!!! I immediately went downstairs and made 2 of them, one each for the hubby and I. Since I saw that video last month, I've become the connoisseur of making those sandwiches, it has been requested that many times! *We had it for lunch just yesterday*  It's like a grilled cheese sandwich with an eggy goodness.

Review: A Duke but No Gentleman by Alexandra Hawkins

Warning: This review contains MANY SPOILERS. Read at your own risk!

Not your normal historical. This was a dark, gritty, emotional read. It bears warning that this book contains not one but [spoiler]two rapes[/spoiler].

I Loved Hawkins' Lords of Vice series. I was looking forward to this new series of hers but seriously, "Masters of seduction" they are not! Two "gentlemen" bet on how to strip an 18-year-old virgin of her virginity. How disgusting is that? They would be considered true degenerate rakes. While you can see from the beginning that the "hero" had misgivings, he went along with his "friend" in whatever depravity he wanted.

The poor virgin was allowed to sneak out of ballrooms, and do all manner of things a debutante with a CHAPERONE would not have been able to do! It was disgraceful! There was no romance. Basically, it was "seduction" until [spoiler]she was raped by the evil gentleman[/spoiler] and then the "hero" was "in love" with her. I could find no redeeming qualities in the "hero" at all. The aftermath of violence was dealt with a little too easily in my opinion.

The story overall left an unsatisfying, slimy taste in my mouth, my heart and my brain! I’ll be reading the next one on the series though, because I can’t give up hope on Ms. Hawkins!

Check out they synopsis below.

They call him Chance, though in truth the Marquess of Fairlamb feels bitterly cursed: A long-ago family feud is standing in the way of his heart's desire. Lady Tempest is the daughter of his father's sworn enemy, the Marquess of Norgrave. She is beautiful, innocent, and utterly untouchable. But some seductions are just too good to resist…

Tempest is a woman of her own mind—and a true romantic who will overcome every obstacle to be with the man of her dreams. But the odds are against the handsome, wickedly charming Chance if he intends to win Tempest as his bride. Will he choose loyalty to his family—or risk everything he has for the woman he yearns for?

Top Ten Tuesday - Series I quit reading

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. This weeks theme is Top 10 Series I quit reading.   [space size=15]

We are going to talk today about some series I've abandoned. I love to read series books and there are some that are into their 2oth or more book and I'm still reading them. I have a habit of collecting all the books and then binge reading them. I LOVE to binge read and series are perfect for that , don't you think?

Series I quit and won't go back

  1. The Color of Heaven series by Julianne MacLean. I read the first book and while it was interesting, it wasn't really in a genre I enjoyed. I'll continue to read her historical novels.

  2. The Dare to Love series by Carly Phillips. I listened to the first few of them and enjoyed them very much. They are a lot spicier than her Serendipity and other earlier books, that I loved so much. It's not the heat that's made me abandon them though, I just couldn't get invested in the other side of the family

  3. Otherworld/Sisters of the Moon series by Yasmine Galenorn. These books were HOT! Extremely Steamy reads but even Ms. Galenorn stated she didnt' consider her books romance, although they have romance in them. Lots of Science fiction/fantasy fun.

  4. Stephanie Plum by Janet Evanovich. Oh Stephanie! If you haven't matured or chosen a guy by book 16, I'm afraid I had to ditch you! The plots were crazy fun to read but dang it that whole Ranger and Joe thing got on my nerves! PICK RANGER ALREADY!!
    [gallery columns="4" ids="1353,1354,1355,1356"]

    [space size=15]

Series I quit and will go back

  1. The Naked Nobility series by Sally Mackenzie. Those books are pure fun! Alas I did seem to abandon them after the first 2, I'll be adding these back to my TBR pile.

  2. Nerds by Vicki Lewis Thompson. These are more books that were just fun! I'll have to get back to them!

  3. The Others  by Christine Warren. I stopped reading these after first 2. I'm not sure why, but I'l probably be picking up these for my TBR as well

  4. Pennyroyal Green- Julie Anne Long. I read the first and the rest are on my TBR pile

  5. Rock Chick by Kristen Ashley - I enjoyed the first two books but somehow got distracted from them.[gallery columns="5" ids="1357,1359,1360,1361,1362"]

Any book series you've quit reading? Any you wish to get back to?

Review: Marry me at Christmas by Susan Mallery

Madeline has a huge crush on Jonny Blaze. So what does Mayor Marsha the town matchmaker do, asks her to plan his sister's wedding. Starstruck, she may be, but she's true to herself and treats him like a regular person. As for Johnny sake, all he wants is to be normal. (We see this in his thinking quite frequently.) He starts to fall for Madeline almost from the start. He loves that she straight talks him. The town accepts him as one of their own and that keeps surprising him.

I like that Madeline has tried so many different careers and has finally found her place. She got a lot of flack for that from someone but didn't let it get to her and she forged her path. Johnny lucked out in his career path and he truly enjoys it but wants more out of his roles. The dialogue between them was sweet and honest.

I enjoyed the story. It was a nice sweet, no conflict, really. I think though that Fools Gold stories have about run out. I'm hoping the new town series will help put some imagination back into Susan Mallery books, they are getting a little too cookie cutter for me.

Snack Time with Nelle #1

This is a new "Twitter Style" feature for reviews. It will have 2 or 3 reviews with 140 characters or less. (possible a bit more) I'll just give a brief highlight of what I thought.

Catherine and Brody, lovers from opposite sides of society, cruelly torn apart, they have to survive mile high hurdles to find their second chance at love.

[book-info number="1"]

[br] [br]
Marlow, a feisty member of a Seven Dials gang is thrown into the ton. Priggish Maxwell Daring is tasked to mold and tame her into being Lady Elizabeth. A humorous, "rags to riches" story but with grit.

Off to Scotland to find her "Mr. Darcy", Sloan meets Highland bartender Galen. Sloan was the quintessential rich, American brat and Galen was a jerk.  The only chemistry I saw was the arguing kind.
